How is seamless pipe produced?

The production method of seamless steel pipe is roughly divided into the diagonal rolling method and the extrusion method.

The miter rolling method is to first perforate the tube embryo with a miter roll and then extend it with a rolling mill. This method has a fast production speed, but it has a high requirement for the machinability of the tube billet, which is mainly suitable for the production of carbon steel and low alloy steel pipes.

The extrusion rule is to perforate the tube billet or steel ingot with a perforator and then extrude the steel pipe with an extruder. This method is less efficient than the diagonal rolling method and is suitable for the production of high-strength alloy steel pipe.

Both the skew rolling method and the extrusion method must first heat the billet or ingot, and the steel pipe produced is called hot rolled pipe. Steel pipes produced by the hot processing method can sometimes be cold processed as needed. There are two methods of cold processing: one is the cold drawing method, which is to draw the steel pipe through the drawing die, so that the steel pipe gradually becomes thinner and elongated; Another method is the cold rolling method, which is the hot rolling mill invented by the Mennesmann brothers applied to the cold processing method. The cold processing of seamless steel pipes can improve the dimensional accuracy and processing finish of steel pipes, and improve the mechanical properties of materials.
